Student-Alumni Networking

February 10-15, 2025

Break Through, Susquehanna’s annual student-alumni networking conference, connects you to alumni who have been where you are and want to help you as you move toward graduation and beyond. Whether you are in your first or last year at Susquehanna — or somewhere in between — Break Through has something for you.

In addition to the Break Through conference held on campus each year, you can take a Career Trek to visit alumni working in major cities. From both options, you’ll get tips on everything from making the most of your college experience to making friends after graduation and landing your first job.

Take advantage of these free networking opportunities, open to all majors in all class years. And who knows? It could lead to an internship or even a job!

Break Through Networking Trek

The Break Through program kicks off each year with a career trek to a major city. This year’s trek will take students to Philadelphia on Tuesday, October 8, where’ll they interact with alumni in their places of business. In addition to hosting students, alumni are also encouraged to gather for an evening reception.

Campus Networking Conference

Each year in February, alumni converge on campus for the annual Break Through student-alumni networking conference. And there’s something for everyone during this multi-day event, from career-specific panel discussions and money management advice to résumé tips and how to brand yourself online.

Here’s what some students had to say:

“Having a genuine conversation with someone who was once in your shoes is an amazing experience.”
– Christina Martin ’18, political science and public policy

“Being involved in these events helped to answer many of my questions about the business community and what life is truly like outside the safe haven (of) school.”
– Alex Wager ’20, business administration

“I attended a panel on working in the nonprofit sector, where they spoke a lot about working with the Peace Corps. It’s something that I’ve thought about before, and after what I heard it’s something that I am really looking forward to [pursuing].”
– Lauren Berkel ’19, business administration

Career Treks

The Break Through program kicks off each year with Career Treks to major cities in the Northeast, including New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.

There you’ll break into small groups for lunch and company tours with alumni hosts working in each city. During the course of the day, alumni and their colleagues

  • Help you explore different career paths.
  • Show you how to differentiate yourself in the workforce.
  • Give you advice on how to make the most of SU’s programs.
  • Offer you tips on getting your “foot in the door” in different industries.

Here’s what some students have to say about the trips, too:

“The alumni who help at this event are the reason Susquehanna University students are so successful. I, for one, know that I will be reaching out to the people I met for future help.” – Emma Kirbis ’19

“I think it’s incredibly useful for students to see and experience a day with an alumna/nus who is working in their potential field. Besides the insights learned on-site, the connections that can be made at the evening reception are equally valuable to a student.”– John Mazuire ’20
